Sohlberg Scholarship
The Olof E. Sohlberg, M.D., Memorial Scholarship
On Tuesday, February 28, 2012, the Oregon Urology Foundation signed an agreement with Lane Community College, creating an endowment for the Olof E. Sohlberg, M.D, Memorial Scholarship. The Scholarship will be awarded to a student in the college’s nursing program.
The OUF created the endowment with a gift of $50,000 to the LCC Foundation. The college’s foundation expects that income from the endowment’s invested funds will be sufficient to fund a scholarship of $2,500 a year in perpetuity if the endowment grows as a result of further gifts, the amount of the Sohlberg scholarship may be increased, or more than one scholarship may be awarded.
About half of the scholarship endowment is made up of funds donated to the OUF in memory of Dr. Sholberg. The OUF matched that amount.
Olof Solhberg, a senior partner at the Oregon Urology Institute, helped establish the Oregon Urology Foundation. Whose mission is to promote urological health, education, and research. Sohlberg, who died in 2011, had an abiding faith in the power of education to change people’s lives, and believed that members of the medical professions have an obligation to use their skills in service to their communities and the world.
The Olof E. Sohlberg, M.D., Memorial Scholarship is intended to be a lasting monument to the vision and commitment of its namesake.
